The Bank of Brazil presents Fullgás – visual arts and the 1980s in Brazil. Curated by Raphael Fonseca, alongside co-curators Amanda Tavares and Tálisson Melo, this original exhibition offers a wide array of Brazilian art in the 1980s.
Bringing together more than 300 works of art by artists from all corners of the country, the exhibition presents to the public a generation that experienced the cultural and structural transformations that Brazil underwent from 1978 to 1993. In addition to the works of art, the exhibition displays elements that make up the visual culture of that era, such as magazines, LP covers, pamphlets and other objects that reflect the impact that various types of media had on this period. By realizing this project, the Bank of Brazil Cultural Center (CCBB) strengthens its commitment to value Brazilian art, draws generations closer to the art of the 1980s and helps bolster the connection between Brazilians and culture.

Movimento de Arte Pornô Rio de Janeiro

The Porn Art Movement was an avantgarde initiative that used pornography as both art and a form of political resistance during the final years of Brazil’s civil-military dictatorship – a period when pornography was banned in the country. Conceived by Eduardo Kac and Cairo Trindade, the movement engaged in interventions and performances in public spaces across Rio de Janeiro, with spontaneous participation from others. It was experimental, politically progressive and socially non-normative, embracing a plurality of genders and noncisnormative identities. Although the movement formally ended in 1982, some performances and publications continued until 1984, such as the book Antolorgia (1984).
