Clinamen - Antoine Schmitt at DAM Projects Gallery in Berlin, DE

11/10/2023

From 10 November to 16 December 2023, Antoine Schmitt can be seen in Berlin for his first German solo show, "Clinamen". Antoine Schmitt, Paris, creates artworks that address the processes of movement in all of their modalities, and question their intrinsic conceptual problematics. He places programming at the core of most of his artworks, and has collaborated with many artists. His work has received several awards in international festivals, and has been exhibited at the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Sonar, Ars Electronica, CAC of Sienna, Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon and Nuits Blanches. By confronting reality as a subject, Schmitt considers himself an heir to kinetic and abstract art. With equations and algorithms, using minimal and abstract visuals, he mimics and recreates reality, especially living systems. It could be particles, people, societies, crowds, herds, galaxies, planets, the human psyche, animals, thoughts… the movement of anything. Based on Lucretius, the Clinamen is the fundamental chaotic bias that swerves atoms so they interact and eventually develop shapes, galaxies, and humans. An overview of Schmitt’s artworks will be on display at his first exhibition at DAM projects.
