Catalogue published on the occasion of the exhibition "Zaven Paré - Mécatronics", at the Centre des Arts d'Enghien les Bains, France, from January 14 to March 20, 2016.
Passionate about the art of manufacturing, Zaven Paré designs vulnerable and fragile devices that run counter to the digital arts and poetically verge on the idea of breakdown. In his work with robots, he seems less fascinated by technology itself than by the flaws and limitations of the devices. He borrows from the game of Meccanos the use of spare parts of constructions allowing the assembly of optical instruments, pneumatic and electronic devices. He thus imagines objects halfway between mechanical sculptures in pieces and installations of machine fragments.
His abundant spirit is brought to life here in this book through editorial collaborations such as those of Raphaël Cuir, Travis Preston, Emmanuel Grimaud and Chihiro Minato, thus retracing his career, his international collaborations and the stories that populate his practice.
